  Chile and Spain are celebrating the 500th-anniversary discovery of the Magellan Strait, on November first 1520, by the round of the world expedition of Fernando Magellan and his second in command Sebastián Elcano, who had left Spain on September 1519, with five ships and some 247 crew, and only returned three years later with one vessel and 18 men.

  YPF and ENAP agree to increase gas and oil production off Magellan Strait

  

  Argentina's YPF and Chile's Enap Sipetrol announced a joint project to expand the production of natural gas and crude from the offshore Magallanes Deposits, (PIAM), to the east of Magellan Strait Reserve. Representatives from Tierra del Fuego province and Magallanes Region, and from the two companies, attended the announcement ceremony.

  A complete Antarctica tourist guide, in English and Spanish was launched by the Chilean Antarctic Institute to promote the polar identity and heritage of over fifty sites in the Punta Arenas area, extreme south of Chile and the Magellan strait.
