  LGBTI Diversity Flag hoisted in Chilean city of Punta Arenas

  

  The diversity flag was hoisted Wednesday on Mount La Cruz in Punta Arenas, Chile's southernmost city, as part of the celebration of the International Gay Pride Day (LGBTI) by the Iguales Foundation. Similar ceremonies were held all over the world, including the Magallanes Region Government House, over 2,000 kilometers south of Santiago.

  Macri and Bachelet meet in Santiago to discuss trade and also Venezuela

  

  Presidents Mauricio Macri of Argentina and Michelle Bachelet of Chile met Tuesday at the Palacio de la Moneda in Santiago to discuss bilateral ties and a trade agreement between the two countries.

  Chile cuts steel for its new 13.000 tons icebreaker to be operational in 2022/23

  

  Chilean president Michelle Bachelet cut the first sheet of steel for the construction of the country's new icebreaker which is expected to be operational for the 2022/23 Antarctic season, replacing the ageing Almirante Oscar Viel.   Chile's ex president Piñera will again run for office; polls show him leading with 40% vote intention

  

  Sebastian Piñera, who was Chile's president from 2010 to 2014, officially declared this week his intention to seek the office again this year, betting that widespread disillusion with the governing coalition will help him win over voters. Conservative Piñera who ranks 745th on the Forbes list of the world's richest billionaires, is bidding for the nomination of the 'Chile Vamos' coalition, formed by his party and the more conservative UDI.

  Petrobras scandal reaches Chile: Bachelet denies receiving any financial support

  

  Chilean President Michelle Bachelet on Wednesday denied reports she received financial support for her 2013 campaign from a construction conglomerate that is involved in Brazil's huge Petrobras corruption scandal. Grupo OAS is among dozens of Brazilian companies that are embroiled in a kickback scheme that is the biggest corruption scandal in Brazil's history.
