    Uruguay supports China's candidate as next FAO Director General

    Deputy minister Qu Dongyu is one of five candidates which have been presented by FAO Member Countries for the post of FAO Director-General

    Uruguay formally announced it will support China's Agriculture and Rural Affairs deputy minister as the next Director-General of FAO to be elected June 2019. The official statement was made by Uruguay's foreign minister Rodolfo Nin Novoa during a meeting with China's Deputy Prime Minister Hu Chunhua in Montevideo.

    Argentina, Chile and Uruguay plan joint presentation at Seatrade Cruise Global 2019

    Seatrade Cruise Global 2019 is scheduled to take place between 8 and 11 April in cruise hub Miami.

    Argentina, Chile and Uruguay will be making a joint presentation at the next Seatrade Cruise Global 2019, in Miami, as part of a joint strategy to attract more cruise tourism to the region. The announcement was done by Uruguay's ports authority, Alberto Diaz who hosted a meeting of tourism and sea terminals representatives from the three countries.

    The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay, Rodolfo Nin Novoa, ratified his position on Friday on a peaceful solution to the political and institutional crisis suffered by Venezuela along with his Italian counterpart, Enzo Moavero Milanesi in Montevideo. The Uruguayan chancellor questioned the attitude of the secretary general of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, considering that he took sides on the Venezuelan conflict.

    Seventeen Filipino crew members rescued from a jigger on fire in Falklands' waters arrived in Montevideo

    “Jun Rong” had a crew of 69, and 64 were rescued and taken to Montevideo where they underwent medical attention, and are waiting to fly back to their homes.

    Seventeen Filipino crew members have arrived safe and sound to Montevideo, following the 11 February fire and loss of their Taiwanese flagged jigger in Falkland Islands waters last week. “Jun Rong” had a total crew of 69, and 64 were rescued and taken to the capital of Uruguay where they underwent medical attention, and are waiting to fly back to their homes.

    Crew of Taiwanese jigger that caught fire in Falklands' waters en route to Montevideo

    The Falkland Islands government confirmed on Wednesday that the Taiwanese jigger Jung Ron which caught fire approximately 60 nautical miles north of Stanley, is now drifting to a position 110 nautical miles NE of Stanley and continues to head away from the Falkland Islands coastline.
