    It seemed sure that, starting January 10, Venezuela would experience high uncertainty. Nicolás Maduro swore in the presidency for the 2019-2015 government period in front of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ), when the constitution of that country dictates that it is before Parliament that the president must present the inauguration. Both the international community and the National Assembly (AN), declared in contempt by the Supreme Court, mark Maduro as an usurper. The illegitimacy of the president is discussed globally and Juan Guaidó is recognized as interim president of the Republic.

    March for Diversity illuminates Montevideo in favor of LGBT culture

    Since 2006, the March for Diversity illuminates every year the most important avenue in Montevideo with a 'comparsa' of thousands of people who dance, celebrate and shout slogans in favor of policies for the rights of the LGBT community. In this year's edition, held on Friday, many marched with yellow and red handkerchiefs, colors chosen by the movements of activists in favor of the so-called trans law, which is under discussion in the Uruguayan Parliament. Diplomatic figures such as the ambassadors of the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada participated in this march with their own posters and slogans.

    A Confucius Institute recently opened in Uruguay's capital Montevideo, fulfilling a dream for promoters of Chinese culture and locals keen to learn more about China. The institute, a worldwide network that offers a window to Chinese culture through Mandarin (standard Chinese) language classes and other types of courses, opened in April, thanks to an agreement between Uruguay's University of the Republic (Udelar) and Qingdao University in eastern China's Shandong Province.
