  On 02nd April 1982 Argentine Forces invaded the Falkland Islands. Patrick Watts, who was Head of Falklands Radio, broadcast a marathon 11 hours non-stop description of the events as they unfolded. He maintained a British presence in the Radio Station for most of the 74 days of Argentine occupation.   Falklands' court fines Argentine lawyer for attempting to export live round as “historic souvenir”

  

  Daniel Sebastian Ujhelly, an Argentine lawyer who had come to the Falkland Islands to take part in the Stanley Marathon was fined £650 in the Summary Court on Friday and ordered to pay £150 prosecution costs, after having pleaded guilty to an offence under the Fire Arms and Ammunition Ordinance 1987, reports this week's edition of the Penguin News.

  The 97th Argentine combatant, whose remains are buried as an unknown soldier at the Argentine military cemetery, Falkland Islands, has been identified, according to the official announcement, on Friday, from the Argentine Human Rights Secretariat.

  Falklands demining team have recovered over 3,000 anti-personnel mines and over 150 anti-tank mines.

  

  SINCE their deployment in October 2016 through to June 2017, the BACTEC teams have worked on 47 minefield areas from Fox Bay, Port Howard and Goose Green to the Stanley area. The team will now leave for three months before continuing the current phase.

  Falklands: 46 minefields to be cleared in two years pledges Foreign Office

  

  Falkland Islanders can expect a total of 46 minefields cleared over the next two years in the Mount Longdon and Stanley area confirmed a Foreign and Commonwealth Office delegation in the Falklands this week. Mines are the long lasting and unwanted legacy of the 1982 war.

  A Malvinas war veteran drowned in an attempt to reach the Falkland Islands in a kayak from Ushuaia while his companion was rescued by an Argentine Navy patrol and is in hospital in a state of chock, reported the Buenos Aires press in the last day of 2011.
