  Falklands' capital Stanley granted city status as part of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations

  

  Stanley, the capital of the Falkland Islands is among eight places to win coveted city status as part of celebrations for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Stanley is the first Overseas Territory to win the competition for city status, while Douglas on the Crown Dependency of the Isle of Man has also claimed the civic honor.

  Price of diesel in the Falklands increases to 80p a liter

  

  The price of diesel in the Falkland Islands has risen. Gareth Goodwin from Stanley Services was quoted by Falklands Television saying volatility risen from the war in Ukraine following the Russian invasion has caused disruptions in global fuel markets.

  Argentina publishes easy-read guide on Malvinas for “adequate reporting and avoiding inaccuracies”

  

  Argentina's Public Defender's Office set out a booklet with a list of recommendations for the “adequate treatment by media” of issues linked to the sovereignty dispute over the Falklands/Malvinas, South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands, and adjoining maritime spaces with the purpose of avoiding “inaccuracies towards audiences”.

  Falklands: Planning Committee unanimously recommends rejection of plans for the new port

  

  The Falkland Islands Planning and Building Committee (PBC) has recommended, unanimously, that the current plans for the new port to be refused by Executive Council. Following the decision the committee adjourned to provide written reasons, --environmental and shortcomings--, to Executive Council (ExCo) for consideration when making the final decision whether to accept or not.

  Falklands: HMS Forth and MPA personnel honor HMS Glamorgan, the last vessel damaged in 1982

  

  Sailors and military personnel in the Falkland Islands saluted the last Royal Navy ship damaged in the 1982 conflict, according to a Royal Navy report. A small group from HMS Forth – the patrol ship which serves as the Islands’ constant guardian – and Mount Pleasant gathered at Hookers Point outside Stanley and the imposing monument of Welsh granite erected to HMS Glamorgan.

  A Catholic mass will soon be offered in Spanish at St Mary’s church in Falkland Islands' capital, Stanley in a bid to make services more accessible. The Falklands community is richly diverse, including a strong representation of South American nationalities.

  Argentine Federal Court upholds Stanley landing ship must not be scrapped

  

  A Bahía Blanca Federal Court of Appeals has upheld a judicial ruling whereby the decommissioned destroyer ARA Santísima Trinidad which took part in the Apr. 2, 1982 landing at Port Stanley, can not be sold as scrap metal, despite its current state of deterioration.
