  A celebrated Japanese sushi businessman, nicknamed “Tuna King”, paid US$1.8 million for a giant tuna at New Year's auction at Tokyo's main fish market on Sunday. Kiyoshi Kimura, who runs a successful sushi restaurant chain, paid 193 million yen (US$1.8 million) to purchase a 276kg bluefin tuna, caught off the Aomori region in northern Japan.

  Tokyo's traditional Tsukiji fish market closes down this Saturday

  

  After years of delays Tokyo’s 83-year-old Tsukiji fish market is closing on Saturday to move to a more modern facility on reclaimed industrial land in Tokyo Bay. The new, US$ 5 billion facility at Toyosu will open Oct. 11, over the objections of many working in Tsukiji who contend the new site is contaminated, inconvenient and unsafe.

  Argentina set to expand fresh beef exports to Japan and China

  

  Argentina is set to expand fresh beef exports to Asia, with Japan and China having already approved import deals, the country's agriculture minister said. Luis Miguel Etchevehere in Tokyo said that Argentina has signed a deal with the Japanese government under which Tokyo will authorize imports of fresh beef from Argentina by late July. His country has also inked a beef export agreement with Beijing.
