  FIG Reception in London: “Falkland Islanders still face threats to our very existence from our nearest neighbour”

  

  A special Falkland Islands Government (FIG) London Office 40th anniversary reception was held in the Durbar Court at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office on Wednesday, and brought to a close a year of events marking the 40th anniversary of the liberation of the Falkland Islands.

  Falklands tells MPs of its concern with registers of beneficial ownership

  

  During the recent visit of members of the Falklands All-Party Parliamentary Group, a controversial and thorny issue came up at a media conference when Penguin News asked whether the Falklands and the effect on the Islands, were being considered amidst the requirement for British Overseas Territories (BOTs) to establish registers of beneficial ownership (*).

  UK Government and Royal Family, 'huge champions' in support of Falklands' sovereignty and self determination

  

  Visiting members of the Falklands All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) reminded Falkland Islanders that they had huge champions in the UK Government and Royal Family during a recent press conference. However Tory James Sunderland MP admitted that “the level of knowledge amongst most MPs about the Overseas Territories is quite limited,” but this does nothing to affect the support for the Islands.

  Royal Navy will have “Cetus”, a crewless submarine in two years

  

  The Royal Navy has ordered its first crewless submarine to shape the future of underwater warfare. In two years' time, Cetus – named after a mythological sea monster – will move through the oceans, monitoring hostile activity, listening out for ships or submarines which may pose a threat to the fleet, or to key national infrastructures such as deep-sea cables and pipelines.

  Falklands: UK Overseas Territories shadow minister reaffirms Labour's resolute support
