
Uruguay is expecting 172 cruise calls this season, of which 105 in Montevideo and 67 in the Atlantic resort of Punta del Este, representing a 24% increase over the 2017/2018 season. This includes the arrival of three new cruise companies, while two others, Costa and Norwegian have chosen Montevideo for the change of passengers.

Ten tourist accommodation establishments in the Falkland Islands have been awarded ‘Green Seal status’, an award related to being environmentally responsible, following assessments by the Falkland Islands Tourist Board (FITB).

According to the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO)’s latest barometer, international tourist arrivals grew 6% in the first six months of 2018 after a record year of growth in 2017. All world regions enjoyed robust growth in tourist arrivals in January-June 2018. The increase was fueled by strong demand from major source markets, supported by an upswing in the global economy. It comes after record year-round growth of 7% in 2017.

The number of incoming tourists to Argentina is increasing month after month since the drastic devaluation of the local currency, while outgoing tourism has dropped significantly. According to the latest release from the country's stats office, Indec, 224.000 tourists arrived in Argentina during August, 7.4% more than a year ago, while residents travelling overseas dropped 11.9%, to 335.300.

Ushuaia, capital of Tierra del Fuego province in the extreme south of Argentina will again be the main hub for Antarctica cruises with an estimated 284 calls involving 36 vessels, according to the provincial Tourism Institute. Overall Ushuaia will receive 375 calls, (Antarctica and non Antarctica cruises) totaling some 120.000 visitors.
