  Falkland Islands Government agrees new financial package in support of its heritage

  

  On Wednesday 22 September, the Falkland Islands 'Executive Council, ExCo agreed on the provision of a capital grant of up to £1m and a loan facility of up to £750,000 to support the Falkland Islands Museum & National Trust (FIMNT) to progress the development and construction of the new Lookout Gallery and Exhibition Hall. The package is designed to mitigate ongoing financial pandemic pressures, including the continued absence of international tourism.

  Chilean tourism operators openly disagree with a mandatory five-day quarantine for arriving foreign visitors

  

  Chilean tourism operators are disappointed with the measures announced by the government regarding a greater opening of borders for foreign tourists. Among the rules which become effective next October first is the possibility that foreign visitors with the appropriate vaccine certificates can access Chile with a negative PCR, besides other requirements.

  Back to earth: Ushuaia admits much uncertainty about the coming cruise season

  

  The recent decision by Silverseas Cruises to move its operations to neighboring Punta Arenas and Puerto Williams in Chile, has shaken Tierra del Fuego and Ushuaia officials who are complaining that the Argentine government, despite promises, has yet to deliver the sanitary protocol for vessels and crew, calling in Ushuaia, plus announcing when borders will be opened.

  New Falklands port gets green light to proceed as part of ambitious infrastructure investment program

  

  Last Friday 10 September 2021, the Falkland Islands port project received ExCo (Executive Council) approval to proceed to Stage One B, Detailed Design, which will take place over the next 13 months. Stage One A began in July 2020 and involved an extensive series of stakeholder workshops, surveys, demand studies and environmental assessments in order to produce the initial Concept Design for the new facility.

  Antarctic cruise company abandons Ushuaia and moves to Punta Arenas

  

  Punta Arenas, the extreme south of Chile will be hosting Silversea Cruises as its base of operations, having decided to abandon Ushuaia in Tierra del Fuego. Silversea announced a release in which it makes official its Antarctic cruise operations during the 2021/22 season, following an agreement with Chilean officials.

  Azul returning to Uruguay in November from Porto Alegre
