    The Economist: “Uruguay is losing its reputation as a success story in Latin America”

    “The Economist” published an article on Thursday stating that Uruguay's reputation as a success story in the region is diminishing. Initially, the British media outlet referred to Uruguay as a “model country” and highlighted its achievements, such as obtaining 95% of its electricity from renewable sources, legalizing same-sex marriage, and allowing residents to buy cannabis from pharmacies. Uruguay was also recognized as the most peaceful and least corrupt country in South America.

    Uruguayan health authorities have issued a series of recommendations to nationals of the South American country traveling abroad, particularly to Argentina, for the Easter Weekend due to a surge in the number of dengue cases detected in the neighboring nation. Health Minister Karina Rando stressed that those returning from that country and from Brazil should be attentive to possible symptoms for 10 or 12 days.

    Uruguayan tourism authorities included the riverside city of Colonia del Sacramento as yet another possible destination for cruise ships already making calls at Montevideo and Punta del Este. Deputy Tourism Minister Renzo Monzeglio headed the South American country's delegation which participated in the recent Seatrade Cruise Global 2023, arguably the most important cruise fair in the world, held at the Fort Lauderdale Convention Center in the US State of Florida.
