Uruguay’s ruling catch-all coalition, Broad Front, has a 44% support well ahead of any of the two main opposition parties, according to the latest public opinion poll released in Montevideo by Equipos Mori.
The Broad Front which is made up of a wide arch extending from the conservative Christian Democrats and Communists to Socialists, anarchists and former urban guerrilla movement converted into politics, doubles runner up National Party with 22%. The other main opposition Colorado party has 15% and the tiny Independent party, 1%.
President Jose Mujica’s performance has an approval of 49% and a disapproval of 21%, while another 29% consider dissatisfaction with his administration.
Mujica, 76, has stronger support among young voters, 59% and fewer acceptances among the older electorate, above 60, with 23%.
The survey which was taken between 8 and 21 December showed that the main concerns of Uruguayans are: insecurity (law and order), unemployment, education and the overall economic situation.
Mujica took office March first 2010 after having been elected in November 2009 following a run off with Luis Alberto Lacalle from the National Party.
The Broad Front has an absolute majority in both houses of Parliament.

Jan 30th, 2012 - 01:42 pm 0Look at the spin made by CFK's govt that more than 54 % voted for her. The reality was that 36.6% of the ELIGIBLE vote did and 63.4% DID NOT.
My Uruguayan friends think that Pepe's mishandling of the Argentinean bullying of Uruguay is a serious problem and one that he needs to address.
