Argentine President Cristina Fernández met on Monday with her Uruguayan counterpart José Mujica after the pair inaugurated a new vessel belonging to the ferry company Buquebús, (which joins Montevideo with Buenos Aires), in order to discuss matters related to the controversial UPM pulp plant formerly known as Botnia.

US Congress clash over spending bill rattles world markets
Shares in New York closed lower on Monday as the prospect of a shutdown of some US government activities looks increasingly likely. The Dow Jones closed down 128 points, or 0.84%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq fell by 0.60% and 0.27% respectively. However, all three indexes were up for the month, buoyed by a strengthening US economic recovery.

Argentina buys 16 Mirage F 1 from Spain; half have air-refuelling capacity
Argentina has confirmed the purchase of 16 second hand Mirage F-1 decommissioned from the Spanish Air force in an operation valued at 170 million Euros. The expenditure is contemplated in the 2014 budget bill approved in the Lower House and which awaits debate in the Senate.
