Uruguay expects a no-growth cruise season; Buenos Aires port rates discourage companies
Uruguay is expecting some 150 cruise calls this coming season 2016/17 which begins next month and represents some 300.000 visitors, according to Tourism minister Liliam Kechichian who nevertheless admitted that growth prospects are somehow behind schedule because of the high costs of reaching and operating in the port of Buenos Aires.

Sir Richard Branson’s new Caribbean cruise line is moving forward, and it’s got a new name. At a press conference in Miami on Tuesday, the new cruise line announced that it will now operate under the name Virgin Voyages.

US receives Monday OAS Electoral observation mission ahead of 8 November vote
Next Monday, October 24th, the Chief of the Organization of American States Electoral Observation Mission (OAS/EOM) to the United States, former Costa Rican President Laura Chinchilla, will begin a preliminary visit to the United States during which she will hold meetings with key authorities and stakeholders of the electoral process in the states of Georgia and Pennsylvania, as well as the District of Columbia.

Diphtheria outbreak in Venezuela; CIA “germ warfare” claims the Chavista government
Diphtheria, an extremely contagious disease that has been mostly eradicated worldwide through vaccination, has reappeared in Venezuela and so far has killed four children with another twenty cases reported in just one month. The reappearance of diphtheria, a disease not seen in Venezuela in more than 20 years, is yet the worst symptom of the country's collapsed health system.

The Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump gained on his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton among US voters this week, cutting her lead nearly in half, according to Reuters/Ipsos polling released on Friday. The polling data showed Trump's argument that the Nov. 8 election is “rigged” against him has resonated with members of his party.
