July inflation in US at 0.1% and the annual rate stands at 1.7%

Prices in the United States rose by less than expected last month, as inflation in the economy remained tame. The Labor Department's Consumer Price Index (CPI) inched up 0.1% last month, only a slight improvement on a stagnant June figure. Economists polled by Reuters had expected a 0.2% month-on-month increase.

U.S. President Donald Trump's threat of military intervention in Venezuela was “an act of craziness,” the country's Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino said on Friday. Venezuela's foreign ministry was expected to issue a statement on Saturday responding to Trump's comment that “a possible military option” was under consideration for the crisis-racked nation.

Century old English fruitcake found in Antarctica: could belong to Scott's expedition

New Zealand scientists have found a 'perfectly preserved' 106-year-old fruitcake in a remote Antarctic hut. The delicacy, made by British cake makers Huntley and Palmers, was still wrapped in paper and encased in the remains of a tin-plated iron alloy tin, the researchers at the Antarctic Heritage Trust in Christchurch said in a statement on Thursday.

Falklands' SAERI lead in Ascension Island tropical marine research

The Journal of Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom (*) has this month released a special issue focussing on Ascension Island’s marine biodiversity. Falklands' based SAERI Director Dr Paul Brickle explained that 20 papers reported on the results of 202 sampling events, comprising a mixture of quantitative SCUBA surveys involving belt transects for fish and mobile fauna and quadrat photography for sessile fauna.
