  Poor squid season hits Argentina's seafood exports in first quarter

  

  Argentina's Under Secretariat of Fisheries reported that landings between January first and 30 April plummeted19.3% but exports in the first quarter achieved significant growth in foreign currency: 16.2%, with a slight increase in volume 1.7%. The poor landings are attributed to a “terrible” squid season, while the jump in export value was supported by extraordinary sales of shrimp.

  Operation Condor condemns Argentine ex dictator and 14 top military officers

  

  Former Argentine dictator Reynaldo Bignone and 14 other ex-military officials were found guilty by an Argentine court on Friday of conspiring to kidnap and assassinate leftist dissidents as part of the Operation Condor program. Bignone, 88, the highest ranking figure on trial, was sentenced to 20 years in jail. Fourteen of the remaining 16 defendants got eight to 25 years behind bars. Two were found not guilty.

  UK-Argentina: a new start for an old relationship, according to The Economist

  

  With its green bell tower and royal coat of arms, the Torre Monumental in Buenos Aires would not look out of place in a British market town. The 60-metre Palladian clock tower was a gift from the city’s British community to mark the centenary of Argentina’s 1810 revolution (though it was completed in 1916). On May 24th this year around 200 people gathered to commemorate its centenary.
