Massive strand of dozens of pilot whales in Western Australia

Some one hundred pilot whales ended stranded on a beach in Western Australia on Tuesday with wildlife officials announcing 51 had already died on Wednesday. The whales were spotted swimming near Cheynes beach east of Albany early on Tuesday, but by the afternoon the beached whales covered a stretch of the shoreline, despite earlier efforts to guide them back to sea.

Dead penguins found on Uruguayan beaches

Uruguayan researchers have reported the finding of some 300 dead Magellanic penguins on local beaches, the NGO SOS Rescate Fauna Marina confirmed. The birds were said to be extremely thin and might have died due to cold weather on their annual migration from Argentine Patagonia to southern Brazil in search of food and warmer weather.
