Food banks and now “warm banks” in UK as recession deepens

Food banks in a UK plunged in recession and industrial action have mushroomed to help feed people struggling with low incomes. Now, as the cost of living balloons, so-called warm banks have opened to cater to people unable to heat their homes due to skyrocketing energy bills.

Abundant rainfall in central Brazil helps Paraná River recover navigable level

After years of forcibly lighter shiploads due to the intense down flow of the Parana River, the water level has begun to grow again, especially in the last couple of months. Thus according to the Rosario Grain Exchange, the average shipload of vessels sailing upriver rose 21% in two months and stood at more than 38,000 tons in November. Furthermore, the current water level is 23% above November last year and 19% above the November 2020 average.

Increasing number of wildfires recorded in Amazon after new Forest Code

Wildfires in Boca do Acre, Amazonas, went from 66% in 2012, the year the new Forest Code was approved, to 88% in 2019, according to a report from the National Center for Monitoring and Alerts of Natural Disasters (Cemaden) published Tuesday in partnership with other organizations, Agencia Brasil reported.
