    Argentine Foreign Minister Diana Mondino celebrated Thursday's announcement regarding the imminent handover of the British Indian Ocean Territory of Chagos to Mauritius after a dispute of nearly six decades and hinted that a similar path should be followed to ”recover the Malvinas (Falkland).”

    Chagos Archipelago: Political Agreement between the UK and Mauritius

    The UK Government has confirmed today (Thursday 3 October) that it has reached a political agreement on the exercise of sovereignty over the Chagos Archipelago. Today’s political agreement is subject to the finalisation of a treaty. Under the terms of this treaty the United Kingdom will agree that Mauritius is sovereign over the Chagos Archipelago, including Diego Garcia.

    The Falklands Petrel Fishing Company Ltd., belonging to Fortuna Group and Galician associate Pescapuerta Group officially received Monday afternoon at the Nodosa shipyard in Marin, Spain, state of the art trawler-freezer F/V Prion, considered among the best ever built in Spain and which will begin operations in the next squid season 2025 in Falklands waters.

    Falklands Borders & Southern raises £1.5 million to advance development of the Darwin Gas Condensate discovery

    Harry Baker, Borders & Southern CEO said they are “seeking a partner to move Darwin forward by either testing Darwin East or drilling another target.”

    Independent oil and gas company, with assets offshore Falkland Islands, Borders & Southern Petroleum, (AIM: BOR) has announced it has raised £1.5 million, before expenses to advance the development of its 100% owned Darwin Gas Condensate discovery offshore the Islands. The Fundraising comprises a placing and a subscription by a majority of the Company's directors.

    Falklands Tourist Board and cruise lines working on solutions for clash days

    A busy day at the Stanley Jetty Visitor Centre, great for the economy but not necessarily for Islanders normal life

    The issue of the controversial clash days during the cruise summer season was also addressed by ExCo in its end of September meeting. It was noted that the Falkland Island Tourist Board (FITB) is currently taking cruise ship bookings out to the 2026/27 season and intends to continue monitoring future clash days during the 2024/25 season.

    LATAM with improved performance results looking to refinance debts

    LATAM had a net profit of US$146 million in the second quarter, driven by growth and healthy margins, accumulating US$405 million in six months of 2024

    LATAM Airlines has announced an interest in refinancing its US$450 million 13.375% Senior Secured Bonds maturing in 2027, and its current US$1.1 billion term loan agreement. The debt was issued in October 2022 in connection with its exit from the reorganization proceedings under Chapter 11 of Title 11 of the United States Code.

While southern Chile and Argentina, Patagonia, will see a ring of the Sun as the Moon passes in front of it, those in the Falklands Islands will see a large solar eclipse.

    The Falkland Islands Tourist Board (FITB) celebrated a successful World Tourism Day event, with a strong turnout from both businesses and the community. Eight local tourism businesses participated, and for the first time, the event also featured arts and crafts, showcasing four different types of crafts. This addition reflects the growing involvement of local suppliers, with 73 now represented at the Jetty Visitor Centre.
