    Ocean Rig determined to collect 'termination fee' from Falklands' Premier Oil

    CEO Economou says the industry's prospects remain bleak and with limited possibilities of a recovery before 2018, at the least

    Ocean Rig UDW Inc. has officially announced that two of its drilling contracts have been terminated, one of them in the Falkland Islands where its “Eirik Raude” was working for Premier Oil as the main operator. Ocean Rig is demanding a termination fee of several million dollars and in case Premier Oil contests the payment, “we intend to commence arbitration proceedings”.

    Noble Energy cancels drilling in Falklands, following termination of rig contract

    Due to operational issues with the drilling rig, Noble has cancelled the rig contract, leading, in turn, to the notification to Argos of Force Majeure, the company said.

    Falkland Islands based company, Argos Resources Ltd. said it has received notification from Noble Energy, the operator of license PL001 in which Argos holds a 5% overriding royalty interest, that it is exercising its rights to declare Force Majeure on the well.

    Four Argentines plan to swim the Falklands' Sound on an “identity cause”

    “The humanitarian aspect has to be differentiated from politics. This humanitarian task, not political” argued Julio Aro.

    Four Argentine amateur swimmers have been training for over a year preparing for the crossing of the Falklands' Sound which separates the two main islands, West from East Falkland. The purpose of the crossing is to bring attention on the 'delayed' process of identifying the remains of Argentine soldiers buried in the Falklands under a headstone that reads “Argentine soldier, known only to God”.

    British Defense Secretary Michael Fallon is scheduled to visit the Falkland Islands this week, the first such visit in over a decade. However the timing of the visit has caused some irritation with the Foreign Office, according to the London media, since it could interfere with the current approach with the new Argentine administration.

    Illex 2016 Fishing Season begins in Falkland’s Waters.

    Barton said that the 2015 season was a record for Illex squid with a total of 358,000 tons caught.

    Fishing for Illex squid in Falkland’s water took off on Sunday, as the 2016 fishing season opens. A total of 105 fishing licenses have been issued. The number of licenses issued has remained consistent for the past three seasons.

    Falklands' exploratory campaign ended, following termination of ocean rig contract

    The rig 'Eirik Rude' experienced a number of material operational issues, according to Premier Oil and Noble Energy

    The Falkland Islands government and Premier Oil have announced on Friday the ocean rig 'Eirik Raude' contract termination, which in practical terms puts an end to the current exploratory campaign and the scheduled drilling of the Chatham well. Nevertheless both sides underlined the success of the now terminated campaign with the oil discoveries at the Zebedee and Isobel Deep prospects in the North Falkland basin and look forward to continue working in the near future.
