  Falklands hospitality praised by stranded Argentine runners

  Falkland Islands provided twenty five Argentine nationals with humanitarian aid (food, warmth and shelter) following the announcement of a week long delay to their return flight to Chile. The group was made up of marathon runners and associates who came to the Islands on March 19 and participated in the Sunday Standard Chartered bank Stanley Marathon. The competition was won by Argentine athlete Rafael Lencina in record time.

  L'Austral, sister of Falklands-incident Le Boreal, makes inaugural call in Gibraltar

  

  The smallest but possibly most exclusive cruise liner to visit Gibraltar this year pulled into port on Thursday. The L’Austral, a French liner, is also the first to make an inaugural call this season. The captain of the ship, Olivier Marien, was met by the Minister for Tourism and the Captain of the Port on board.

  Falklands bid farewell to Sea King Helicopters

  

  The Falkland Islands community bid farewell to two Search & Rescue (SAR) helicopters today after over three decades of service. Both the two RAF Sea King helicopters were brought to the capital Stanley today for the local community to say goodbye, as well as meet the crew who man the aircraft. The new AAR helicopter, which will replace the existing RAF SAR service, was also present at the farewell today.

  Controversy in Argentina over Malvinas invasion date: Macri will not attend any of the April 2 anniversary events

  

  Malvinas veterans expressed great displeasure with the official announcement that Argentine president Mauricio Macri will not be attending any of the programmed events in different cities and provinces on the 34th anniversary of the Argentine April 2 invasion of the Falklands/Malvinas Islands, according to Buenos Aires media.

  UN announcement has no implications on sovereignty over the Falklands.

  

  A statement released earlier this afternoon from the Falkland Islands Government regarding the UN announcement of the extension of the Argentine continental shelf states that the announcement makes “no adjudication on the sovereignty of the Falkland Island and has no implications for the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands”.

  Argentine congress celebrates UN continental shelf decision as a big plus for Malvinas dispute

  

  Lawmaker from president Mauricio Macri ruling “Let's Change” group, Eduardo Amadeo, celebrated the UN recognition of Argentina's continental shelf extension presentation which means a strong support in the Malvinas Islands' sovereignty dispute with the UK, but also increased the country's territory by at least 35%.

  Falklands waiting UK reaction; extended continental shelf does not apply to mobile species such as squid

  

  The Falkland Islands Government, FIG, reacted to the Tuesday official Argentine announcement of its extension of the continental shelf saying it was waiting clarification from the UK government on the implications, if any for the Islands. What is certain is that it does not affect fisheries or squid catches, one of the Islands main source of income.
