  Falklands and other BOT should be given a seat in the Commons, says MEP Farage

  

  The Falkland Islands, Gibraltar and Britain’s other Overseas Territories should be given a seat in the Commons, UK Independent Party MEP Nigel Farage said on Tuesday. The UKIP leader claims their voices are dangerously ‘muted’ in Britain and they should be allowed to elect their own ‘MP for the Territories’, following on the French experience.

  Falklands MPA has the minimum force necessary to prevent a repeat of 1982 invasion

  

  The UK military base in the Falkland Islands has the “minimum necessary force to prevent a repeat of the illegal invasion such as that of 1982” committed by Argentina said Foreign Office Minister of State for Latinamerican affairs Hugo Swire during an interview with the Argentine news agency, Diarios y Noticias.   Falkland Islands’ tourism industry keeps growing despite a drop in cruise visitors

  

  The Falkland Islands International Tourism Statistics Report released to the public this week records that 2012 was the second highest year on record in terms of overnight visitors travelling for leisure. There were 7,791 overnight tourists (as opposed to day trip cruise tourists) arrivals in the Falkland Islands in 2012, of which 1,937 could be classed as leisure visitors. Overall, tourist arrivals have grown at an average annual rate of 7% per annum over the period 2000-2012.

  Falkland Islands: Argentina blasts UK’s ‘double standard’ on self determination right

  

  Argentina questioned the UK after its negative vote at the United Nations General Assembly “to place French Polynesia back on the UN list of non autonomous territories that should be decolonised” Additionally Argentina renewed its claim over the Falkland Islands sovereignty and described the UK attitude, ‘colonial hypocrisy’.

  Polynesia in decolonization list; Pacific islands proposal supported by 193 votes in UN General Assembly

  

  The UN General Assembly on Friday put French Polynesia on the global body's decolonization list at a meeting boycotted by France. The resolution, passed by consensus in the 193 member assembly, was called for by the Solomon Islands and other Pacific states that back the Pacific territory's pro-independence parties.

  Falklands’ lawmakers meet Chaco human rights group following formal Argentine request

  

  On request from a group of human rights representatives from Chaco, Argentina, Falkland Islands lawmakers met and listened to their views on a number of issues resulting from the 1982 war. The meeting followed a formal request from the group directly to the Falklands elected Legislative Assembly.
