    Falklands television and radio services outages on Monday and Tuesday

    However, Stanley radio listeners will still be able to pick up FIR on 88.3FM.

    Residents of the Falkland Islands capital Stanley and surrounding areas are advised that TV and Radio services from Sapper Hill and the MW service from Mt William (island-wide) will be interrupted on Monday 7 May and possibly again on Tuesday 8 May, commencing at around 8am for the duration of daylight hours only.

    Falkland Landholdings: increase in production numbers and quality

    An overall increase in production numbers and quality at Falkland Landholdings was reported by General Manager Andrew Pollard at the FLH Board meeting on March 27. Mr. Pollard in early April also attended the World Merino Conference held in Montevideo, an excellent opportunity to meet Uruguayan customers of Falklands' wool, sheep farmers from other countries and Peter Ackroyd, President of the International Wool Textile Organization, IWTO.

    Falklands annual Safeguarding Report calls for Islands to be “Model of Best Practice”

    Last week the Falkland Islands Government published their annual report on safeguarding and child protection issues in the Islands. The Government is obliged legally to publish an annual report on such matters, a requirement brought into law in 2014 after a number of historic issues were discovered and investigated in recent years. This document looks to summarize activities in this field over the past year and does not provide any details on individual cases.

    Falkland Islands Government Partnership with local Environmental NGO Updated

    The Falklands Islands Government have just recently finalized a review process of their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Falklands Conservation, a local environmental NGO. This is an important partnership for the Government and has been in place 2006 on a formal basis.

    Falklands' elected government after a Special Advisor for the coming C24 meeting

    MLAs Roger Edwards and Ian Hansen will be attending the Special Committee on Decolonization (C-24) on 22 June.

    The Falkland Islands elected government are interested in recruiting a Special Advisor with a particular interest in global politics. The purpose of the Special Advisor is to support the two elected representatives of the Falklands that will be attending the annual meeting of the Special Committee on Decolonization (C24) scheduled to take place next 22 June at the United Nations.

    Falklands' contracts consultant to decide on Stanley Airport’s upgrading

    The Islands Plan 2018-2022 articulates the government’s commitment to improve air links and airport facilities at Stanley Airport.

    Runway codes are determined according to runway length; Code 1 being at least 800 meters long and Code 3 , 1200 to 1799 meters in length. Ramboll’s aviation division has been involved in airport developments in a number of countries around the world, including the UK (Heathrow), Russia, Rwanda and Gibraltar.

    It may be too soon to invest in a large bag of popcorn and to book a baby sitter, but cinema-going in the Falkland Islands' capital Stanley, which died out in the late seventies is set to begin again, hopefully, if all goes well by March or April 2019.

    Falklands operating budget surplus keeps increasing

    The Falkland Islands forecast operating budget surplus for the current financial year sits at £33m, Standing Finance Committee (SFC) was told on Wednesday. The surplus, up from the previous forecast of £27m, has been boosted by fishing company corporation tax payments, which have been “significantly higher than budget.”

    The new Association was formed as part of the recommendations of the Tourism Development Strategy, Carli explained.

    The Falklands Tourism Association, a newly created organization, will be present at the coming conference of the International Association of Antarctic Tour Operators, IAATO, scheduled to be held from 1-3 May in Newport, Rhode Island, USA.
