The Commissioner of South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands, SGSSI, Ambassador Alison Blake CMG, GSSI has issued permission for the vessel Victor Angelescu to conduct a CCAMLR-notified survey in South Georgia waters from 07 February to 02 March 2023.
Following the adoption of the Falkland Islands Environment Strategy 2021 – 2040 by the Executive Council in late 2021, there has been much work across government towards achieving the Vision of the Strategy. Guillermo Carmona, secretary of the Malvinas, Antarctica and Southern Atlantic Islands held a round of political talks in Spain in the framework of the bi-national cooperation understandings contemplated in the Buenos Aires Declaration from 2021. The document was signed by Argentine president Alberto Fernandez and his Spanish peer Pedro Sánchez and addressed the Argentina/Spain joint strategic action plan 2021/2023 referred to the Falklands/Malvinas and Gibraltar Questions as well as Antarctic and oceans cooperation.

The British Forces South Atlantic Command this week welcomed the arrival of HMS Medway at Mare Harbor. HMS Medway is a Batch 2 River class offshore patrol vessel, currently commissioned and since 2019 assigned long-term as Royal Navy guard ship in the Caribbean.
