  Argentina displays software to detect and monitor jiggers in the South Atlantic

  

  A specially designed software to help detect, monitor and identify jiggers operating in international waters in the South Atlantic was presented at a meeting organized by Argentina's National Fisheries Research and Development Institute, INIDEP together with the country's Space Research national commission, partners in the development.

  WTO statement in support of reducing fishing subsidies

  

  World Trade Organization members, including Argentina and Uruguay, have agreed on the need to reduce fishing subsidies so as to contribute to the conservation of fishing resources worldwide. This decision was taken because WTO is convinced that fisheries subsidies contribute to economic losses in the fisheries sector, leaving serious impact on food security and livelihoods, particularly in developing countries, Star Business Report reported.

  Falklands' strict work safety measures for 2016 Illex fishery in Islands' waters

  Argentina will have a state of the art fisheries research vessel in 2017

  

  Argentina's Fisheries Research and Development Institute, INIDEP, has signed the contract for the construction of a new fisheries and oceanographic research vessel to be built at the Armon shipyard in Vigo, Spain. The financing for the vessel and refurbishing of INIDEP's offices and labs comes from the Inter-American Development bank with a 30m dollars loan.

  Largest whale stranding, 337 Sei specimens, reported in extreme south Chile

  

  A total of 337 sei whales have been found beached in the extreme south of Chile in what scientists state is one of the biggest whale stranding ever recorded. Biologist Vreni Häussermann made the discovery along with other scientists in June during an observation flight over fjords in Chile's southern Patagonia region.

  Queen's honour for Spaniard who helped develop Falklands' fishing industry

  

  Spanish citizen Jose Antonio Cordeiro Otero has received the Falkland Islands’ Queen’s Certificate and Badge of Honor in recognition of his services to the Falkland Islands and particularly for his work in the fishing industry. The award was presented by the British Ambassador Simon Manley during a ceremony at the Ambassador’s Residence in Madrid.

  Frustration with CCAMLR meeting: no advance on conservation proposals
