  Brazil treasury pays highest yield to launch new 10-year fixed-rate domestic bond

  

  Brazil's Treasury on Thursday paid the highest yield ever to launch a new 10-year benchmark fixed-rate domestic bond. The Treasury said it sold two million NTN-F bonds maturing in January 2025, worth 1.64 billion Reais (683 million dollars), at a yield as high as 13.3899%. The bond is expected to become Brazil's new 10-year benchmark paper.

  Construction of Monsanto plant in north Argentina halted on environmental grounds

  

  A labor appeals court in north-central Argentina ruled that the construction of a Monsanto plant is unconstitutional, halting work on the site. The three judge court ruled 2-1 in favor of the activists who filed a legal appeal against Monsanto’s GMO seed plant on environmental protection grounds in the municipality of Malvinas Argentinas, located in central Cordoba Province.

  Violence threatens to thwart Iraqi oil resurgence

  Active online poll from “The Telegraph” shows Falklands should be under Argentine sovereignty

  

  According to an active online poll released in the British newspaper “The Daily Telegraph”, a clear majority, almost double, of the voters affirmed that the Falklands Islands should be under Argentina’s sovereignty. Almost half the majority of respondents rejected the idea and supported Britain, while the rest answered that the territory should be under “shared sovereignty.”

  Argentine idea to move the capital to north of the country closer to Pacific basin

  

  The president of the Lower House, and Victory Front lawmaker Julián Domínguez affirmed that Argentina's capital should be moved to the north. It is not the first time that this kind of project is presented: when Ricardo Alfonsín was president during the 80's, he proposed to transfer the nation’s capital to Viedma, a town located in the southern province of Río Negro.

  The number of people living in shanty towns or “misery villages” in Argentina and particularly in the capital Buenos Aires keeps increasing despite a decade of sustained growth at almost Chinese rates. According to data from the latest census of 2010, the number of people living in 'misery villages' in Buenos Aires was 163.587 compared to the 107.422 in 2001, with a 52% increase.

  Gibraltar/La Linea unions and business groups call for free flow of persons across the border

  

  Gibraltarian and Spanish unions and business organizations on Tuesday called on their respective governments to act and implement measures that will guarantee the free flow of persons across the border. In a memorandum that will be sent to the European Commission and the European Parliament, the cross-border group expressed its “absolute aversion” to the current situation at the frontier, reports the Gibraltar Chronicle.
