    Hammond begins round of trade and political talks in Argentina

    Hammond is scheduled to meet ministers of economy, finance, foreign affairs, and with president Mauricio Macri

    The Chancellor of the Exchequer begins on Wednesday a round of trade, investment and political contacts in Argentina, following a two day visit to Brazil, as part of a tour of South America's biggest economy. It will be the most important visit of a British cabinet minister in over sixteen years to Argentina.

    Argentina's Peso rose against the dollar on Monday for the first time in two weeks, after the central bank intervened in the foreign exchange markets on Friday to halt the currency's rapid decline to historic lows, when it reached 18 Pesos.

    Hammond arrives in Argentina on trade mission; scheduled to meet Macri

    Hammond is scheduled to meet president Mauricio Macri, Economy minister Nicolas Dujovne, Finance minister Luis Caputo and foreign minister Jorge Faurie.

    Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond is scheduled to arrive in Buenos Aires Tuesday evening following a two day business promotion visit to Brazil. It will be the first time a leading UK cabinet minister sets foot in Argentina in sixteen years; the last was when ex Prime Minister Tony Blair met ex president Fernando De la Rua in the Iguazu falls in 2001.

    Argentina and Uruguay plan to make a joint bid to host the 2030 World Cup

    Carlos Mac Allister said the presidents of both countries and leaders of the two national football federations had agreed to move ahead.

    ARA Libertad docks in Southampton: Open Day on Friday and Saturday

    The flagship of the Argentine navy with 61 midshipmen on board arrived in Southampton as part of a world tour

    Argentina´s navy frigate and tall ship ARA Libertad dropped anchor in Southampton on Wednesday as part of 46th midshipman promotion world tour which left Buenos Aires last March. Ambassador Carlos Sersale di Cerisano received the flagship of the Argentine Navy, while the whole operation was transmitted live from the embassy in London.

    Argentina posted a primary fiscal deficit of 144 billion pesos (US$8.4 billion), or 1.5% of GDP in the first half of 2017, Treasury Minister Nicolas Dujovne said on Wednesday, beating the government target for a gap of 2% of GDP. The primary fiscal deficit was 103 billion pesos in the second quarter, compared with 41 billion pesos in the first quarter.
