  Falklands hopeful of improved relations with Argentina, Gilbert House tells BIMR conference

  

  Falkland Islands remains hopeful of improved relations with the new administration of Argentina and cooperation in the many areas of mutual interest such as fisheries and connectivity, but sovereignty of the Falklands is not for negotiation, reads the Gilbert House report to the 46th British Isles and Mediterranean Region Conference, which opened on Sunday in Jersey.

  Falklands receives visit from Central American journalists

  

  A group of five Central American journalists, including one from Honduras, visited the Falkland Islands to learn more about the politics, economy and life in the Islands. The invitation was made by the Falkland Islands Government (FIG) and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) to media representatives from Panama (Diario La Prensa), Costa Rica (Diario El Extra), El Salvador (El Diario de Hoy), Belize (The Reporter Press), and Honduras (El Heraldo).

  Falkland Islanders celebrate Cultural Diversity Day with food, history, music and dance

  

  The Falkland Islands celebrated on Saturday 10 October cultural diversity day with a series of events starting in the morning and going on until the early hours of the next day. This was the second event organized on the back of an initiative by MLA Barry Elsby who has responsibility for culture within his portfolio to demonstrate how diverse Falklands culture is.

  The Falkland Islands cultural diversity will be celebrated with a whole day of events on Saturday, 10 October. The Falklands with a population of 3.000 according to the latest census, has integrated people born in 53 different countries, with predominance from Britain, St Helena and Chile.

  Falklands stall at the Prado rural show “a great surprise and greater success”

  

  The UK GREAT pavilion at Uruguay's main agri-business exhibition in Montevideo received the top prize for its category while a stall from the Falkland Islands, tended to by Islanders, is estimated to have been visited by 10% of the more than half million visitors that attended the week-long Expo-Prado.

  Falklands reassured by UK commitment to defense and by House support

  

  The Falkland Islands elected Legislative Assembly welcomed the statement of Secretary of Defense before the House of Commons and said it was reassuring that the UK government remains committed to the defense of the Islands, and equally significant the strong support received by the secretary from members of Parliament.

  Falkland Islands unveils bronze to 'hero forever' Baroness Thatcher

  

  Describing Baroness Margaret Thatcher as a “hero forever” the Falkland Islands unveiled on Saturday a bust of the former British Prime Minister whose determination was decisive in recovering the Islands from invading and occupying Argentine forces in 1982, helping to propel the Islands to what they are now. Sir Mark Thatcher, son of the late PM was especially invited to the ceremony.

  Falklands' public opinion petition seeks to end ‘distressing’ flag-waving by visiting Argentines

  

  A petition demanding action from the Falkland Islands Government in relation to Argentine visitors displaying Argentine flags says the behavior by the culprits is “disturbing, unsettling and distressing to many Falkland Islanders”, reports the Penguin News.

  Falklands government has received no request, to date, for exhumations at Darwin cemetery

  

  To date (Monday) the Falkland Islands government has received no formal request for the exhumation and identification of the Argentine combatants buried at the Darwin Cemetery, was the reply from Gilbert House in Stanley to reports to that effect in The Independent, and in the Argentine media.
