  UK trade-hopeful following talks with top Republican congress leaders

  

  Britain will be in the “front seat” to negotiate a new trade deal with the incoming Trump administration, a top Republican in the US Senate has said. A US-UK trade deal would be a priority, Senate Foreign Relations Committee chairman Bob Corker said after meeting Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson.

  UK foreign secretary has held “positive but frank” talks with some of Donald Trump's key advisers during a visit to New York, officials have said. Boris Johnson met Mr Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kuchner, and Steve Bannon, the US president-elect's strategist.

  Foreign Office tells Trump there's “no vacancy for the job of UK ambassador in Washington”

  

  Britain dismissed U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's unprecedented expression of support for Brexit campaigner Nigel Farage to be made British ambassador to Washington, saying pointedly that there is no vacancy for the job. Trump, who after his election victory met Farage before any EU leaders, said on Twitter that “many people” would like to see the former metals trader turned politician as Britain's ambassador.

  Current Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said the UK remaining in the EU would be a “boon for the world and for Europe”, a previously unpublished newspaper column reveals. He wrote the column in February, along with a pro-Brexit article that was later published in The Telegraph. Boris Johnson subsequently became a leading figure in the campaign to leave the European Union.

  London dismisses bilateral dialogue over Gibraltar; “UK's position on sovereignty remains unchanged”

  

  Britain has dismissed a formal Spanish request for bilateral dialogue over Gibraltar, the Gibraltar Chronicle has published. A letter from acting Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel García-Margallo was handed to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office by a senior official from the Spanish embassy in London on September 20.

He replaces Hugo Swire MP, and will report to the new Foreign Secretary, Boris Johnson. Sir Alan (59) remit will include NATO, the Americas, the Falklands, Gibraltar and polar regions.

  May pledges to work “for all not just the privileged few”; Johnson foreign secretary and Hammond chancellor

  

  New Prime Minister Theresa May has made Boris Johnson, the former London mayor who led the Brexit campaign, foreign secretary in her new government. He replaces Philip Hammond, who becomes chancellor and ex-Energy Secretary Amber Rudd is home secretary and Euro skeptic David Davis is the Brexit secretary. Ex-chancellor George Osborne was not included apparently because his “brand” was seen as “too tarnished”.
