    Chilean president Sebastián Piñera headed on Sunday the steel cutting ceremony for the building of the first, --out of four--, multipurpose vessel, to be incorporated to the country's navy. Also present at the ceremony were Defense minister Baldo Prokurica and the commander in chief of the navy, Admiral Juan Andrés de la Maza.

    Construction of the Chilean Navy's new polar ship at the ASMAR Talcahuano Shipyard is 35% advanced according to official information. The ship, being built under the name of Antarctica I project, will replace the Navy's current icebreaker Oscar Viel. She will perform logistic support activities for Antarctic operators, both domestic and foreign, performing tasks such as transporting people and materials, removing garbage and providing food and fuel.

    Chilean navy acquires two 1990 Adelaide class frigates from Australia

    The former RAN vessels are intended to replace two recently decommissioned Chilean warships which were acquired second-hand from the Netherlands in 2004.

    Chile's Navy is preparing to sail two recently retired Australian warships out of Sydney after purchasing them in a deal believed to be worth more than US$ 70 million. Ex-Adelaide-class frigates HMAS Melbourne and HMAS Newcastle were quietly commissioned into their new service this month during a formal handover ceremony between both navies.

    GREAT Maritime law professionals visit Chile

    During their stay in the country, the experts in maritime law attended a reception hosted by HRH the Princess Royal

    The United Kingdom Ministry of Justice, the British-Chilean Chamber of Commerce and the British Embassy in Santiago organized a visit to Chile of UK legal professionals. The delegation of experts in maritime law visited Chile in late November to join HRH Princess Anne, who travelled to the country to join the celebrations of the Chilean Navy’s 200th anniversary.

    Canadian combat management systems for Chile's Type 23 frigates

    Lockheed Martin’s Combat Management System 330 was chosen by Chile after a world-wide competition. Canada's Halifax-class frigates use a similar system.

    Lockheed Martin Canada will provide and install new combat management systems for three of the Chilean Navy’s frigates. The majority of the work will be done at Lockheed Martin Canada’s facilities in Ottawa, Montreal and Halifax. The combat management systems and other equipment will be installed on Chile’s Type 23 frigates.

    Chilen Navy operating from Punta Arenas rescues Australian yacht skipper

    Solo skipper Shane Freeman abandoned the Mushka yacht which has been scuttled to prevent a hazard to navigation, after being rescued by a Chilean Navy sea

    The Chilean Navy rescued 61-year-old Australian skipper Shane Freeman after his yacht Mushka was knocked down and dismasted 300 nautical miles west of Chile. The Australian was on his way to the Sunday Times Golden Globe race’s start line in the UK in his Tradewind 35 class yacht when the incident happened on 18 February 2017.

    Chilean Navy celebrates “Month of the Sea” in Punta Arenas

    President Bachelet is scheduled to visit Punta Arenas and attend some of the main events on 3 May

    Starting this Monday and until 4 May, the Chilean navy is celebrating the Month of the Sea, edition 2016, and has chosen Punta Arenas in the extreme south of the country as the epicenter of the event which includes the visit of president Michelle Bachelet on 3 May.
