  Falklands Code of Practice covers much of ILO Work in Fishing Convention

  

  A convention which has been described as opening up a new era for millions of fishermen worldwide will have some impact on fishermen working in the Falkland Islands' waters. Director of Natural Resources John Barton said that he thought some of the articles of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Work in Fishing Convention 2007 would be enshrined into Falklands licensing conditions make them more robust.

  Falklands renews VMS capability contract for tracking over 150 vessels

  

  Big OceanData has been awarded a contract to provide the Government of the Falkland Islands with its vessel monitoring system (VMS) capability for another five years. For the first time the system will include AIS data, which will be integrated with existing Inmarsat tracking data from the fishing vessels.

  Falklands' 105 plus Illex fishing licences for a promising 2015 season

  

  One hundred and five jiggers and one trawler have been offered Falkland Islands Illex squid licenses for the coming season which opens on February 15. The total number of licences offered matches those taken up in 2014, confirmed Director of Natural Resources John Barton at the Islands Fisheries Committee Meeting.

  The Falkland Islands Magistrates court last week imposed a heavy fine on a Taiwanese company and the master of the vessel Hua Sheng 626 after admitting to a number of fishing offences, according to a report by Stacy Bragger’s from FIRS.
