    The plight of Ascension Island residents cut off from the Falklands' Airbridge

    The island, which covers around 45 square miles just south of the equator, is formed by around 40 volcanic peaks.

    Ascension Island, home to around 800 people, is even more cut off than it used to be after weekly flights linking the island to the UK were stopped - due to a dodgy runway and the wrong kind of RAF aircraft, according to a BBC report. The British overseas territory is the tip of an old volcano in the Atlantic Ocean, mid-way between Africa and Brazil. It's so remote, that when the Portuguese discovered it on Ascension Day in 1501, they didn't even bother colonizing it.

    Falkland Islands: Tourists spending more shows survey

    Arrivals figures were almost identical to the previous season, with over 55,000 cruise visitors and just over 1,400 land based leisure tourists.

    Visitor expenditure in the Falklands increased from both land-based tourists and cruise passengers last season. With all the figures from Immigration now in, and the cruise and air surveys analysed, the Tourist Board has a good picture of how last season performed they told Penguin News.

    Falklands demining team have recovered over 3,000 anti-personnel mines and over 150 anti-tank mines.

    SINCE their deployment in October 2016 through to June 2017, the BACTEC teams have worked on 47 minefield areas from Fox Bay, Port Howard and Goose Green to the Stanley area. The team will now leave for three months before continuing the current phase.

    President Mauricio Macri's administration Friday renewed Argentina's case before the United Nations' Decolonization Committee in New York to bring the United Kingdom to discuss sovereignty over the Falkland, South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands and their surrounding maritime spaces.

    Identification of Argentine soldiers buried in Falklands begins
