  Falklands' oil industry developer Premier CEO steps down

  

  Shares in UK's Premier Oil, which has interests in developing Falkland Islands oil, soared almost 9% on Tuesday despite news that its chief executive is to step down after nine years at the helm. Simon Lockett will leave his position and the board of Premier once a successor has been appointed.

  Falklands' honors only New Zealand soldier killed during the 1982 war

  

  Falkland Islands Member of the Legislative Assembly Mike Summers attended on Friday a wreath-laying ceremony at Palmerston, New Zealand, to honor the sacrifice of Private Richard Absolon who was the only New Zealand solider killed during the Falkland Islands war in 1982.

  Falklands further advances democracy and names Complaints Commissioner

  

  Former member of the Falkland Islands Legislative Assembly Dick Sawle has been appointed as Falklands Complaints Commissioner, which is a similar role to that of an Ombudsman in the UK. Sawle was appointed by Governor Nigel Haywood and his post came into effect on 15 January 2014 for a period of two years.

  Falklands lawmaker on political visit to New Zealand and Australia

  

  Mike Summers Member of the Legislative Assembly of the Falkland Islands will visit New Zealand and Australia this week as part of a regional tour where he will present the Falklands as a modern, thriving democracy and address the Falkland Islanders right to self determination. There are long-standing links between the countries, and this tour hopes to build upon existing relationships.

  By Tim Cole - This week the CELAC Summit will be held in Havana and the Cuban government will be in charge of finalizing the language in the Summit declarations. Inevitably there will be one on the Falkland Islands and I suspect it will ignore the referendum held on the Islands last year when 99.8% voted in favor of the Islands remaining an Overseas Territory of the United Kingdom.

  Three members of the UK Parliament will be arriving in the Falkland Islands next week for a short visit. Conservative party members Guy Opperman and Mark Menzies are accompanied by Labor Party member Yvonne Fovargue and arrive on January 30, departing on February 4.

  Argentine and Spurs old soccer stars in Falklands car crash

  

  Falkland Islands Government sources tonight confirmed reports that former Argentine and Tottenham Hotspur star, Osvaldo Ardiles, was among those injured when a vehicle left the road between Darwin and the military base at Mount Pleasant on Monday evening.
