  Oil drilling sediment shows Falklands could have suffered a tsunami a million years ago

  

  Scientists have found evidence of ancient slope failures on the seafloor to the south of the Falkland Islands on the South Atlantic. Computer models suggest these underwater landslides would have been capable of sending waves crashing on to the Falklands' coastline that was tens of meters high.

  Falklands patrol HMS Forth hosted a wreath-laying ceremony in Falkland Islands waters during a remembrance service honouring those who lost their lives aboard SMS Scharnhorst in 1914.

  Falkland Islands Government update of the COVID-19 response

  

  The Falkland Islands Government announced on Friday that next week it will publish details of its planning to respond to serious infectious disease outbreaks. All parts of the Government have been working since late January on the many parts of such a response, including regular pandemic planning group meetings.

  Argentina pressing Uruguay on Falklands' RAF flights landing in Carrasco

  

  Argentina is again putting pressure on Uruguay, this time on the incoming government which takes office next March first, insisting no UK military aircraft linked to the Falkland Islands be allowed to land in the country's airports and Falklands should not be treated as state with which Uruguay has extensive trade and business exchanges.

  Falklands will have a new port in three/four years; FIG can afford the “indicative pricing”

  

  The Falkland Islands Government (FIG) last week announced that it has chosen BAM-Nutall as its development partner to build a new port with a lifetime of fifty years. This week more details of the major project, to be developed in three stages and which is expected to be completed in three/four years were revealed by members of the local government.

  Falklands completes successfully Badminton Cup, despite Argentina; Canada wins both categories

  

  The Falkland Islands female team competing at the Badminton Pan Am Cup in Brazil gallantly completed its participation in the four-day event, despite protests and bullying from Argentina. Meanwhile Canada successfully defended both titles on finals day at the Pan Am Male and Female Cup.

  Falklands' port development partner is also modernizing BAS Rothera station and a new wharf for RRS Sir David Attenborough

  

  BAM Nuttall Ltd, which has been selected by the Falkland Islands Government, FIG, as the development partner to design and build a new port in Stanley Harbour is no adventurer in the South Atlantic and is closely linked to the UK efforts and investments in Antarctica. In effect, BAM Nuttall is involved in the building of the British Antarctic Survey's largest facility at Rothera Research station.
