  Burdened by domestic problems Brazil’s Rousseff will be absent from Unasur summit

  

  Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff has cancelled her attendance to the Union of South American Nations, Unasur summit in Peru on Friday because of “agenda problems” and previous “domestic engagements”, according to the Planalto press secretary office. Vice-president Michel Temer will be attending in her name.

  Paraguayan president Federico Franco announced on Monday that starting on 2013 the country will become an oil producing nation, after a recent discovery close to the border with Argentina.

  Despite Unasur, Colombia and Chile ambassadors are back in Paraguay

  

  Colombia and Chile ambassadors returned to Paraguay on Sunday after six months absence, the first two members from Unasur in doing so and in practical terms breaking the isolation imposed on the landlocked country following the political crisis which removed Fernando Lugo and had him replaced by current president Federico Franco.

  Chilean ambassador return to Paraguay ‘when electoral process begins’

  

  Chilean Foreign minister Alfredo Moreno said on Thursday it had not been decided when Chile’s ambassador to Paraguay, Christian Maquieira would be returning to Asuncion and pointed out that the diplomat continues “in consultations” with Santiago, following the removal of former president Fernando Lugo.

  Venezuela/Paraguay rift spoils Brazil’s plans for a ‘normal’ Mercosur summit

  Mercosur conflict still alive: Venezuela expels Paraguayan diplomats

  

  Venezuela's government decided to expel Paraguay's remaining diplomats from the country, the top envoy at the Paraguayan Embassy said on Wednesday. Charge d'affaires Victor Casartelli said that he and three other Paraguayan diplomats in Caracas were told by Venezuela's Foreign Ministry to leave within three days.

  Paraguayan Senate rejects Unasur document used as basis to sanction the country

  

  By an overwhelming majority, 36 to 1 and eight absences, the Paraguayan Senate rejected the Unasur Commitment with Democracy Additional Protocol considering it contrary to the sovereign interests of the country and which was the argument used by the regional organization to sanction and suspend Paraguay.
