  South Georgia releases stamps commemorating former governor Sir Rex Hunt

  

  South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands are currently promoting the release of a set of stamps commemorating the life of the former Falklands and dependencies governor Sir Rex Hunt. The release of the stamps on June 11 coincided with a memorial service for Sir Rex Hunt at St Clement Danes, the Central Church of the Royal Air Force, London.

  Shackleton’s Endurance could still be in good conditions on the Antarctic sea bed

  

  Ernest Shackleton's famous ship, the Endurance, which he had to abandon in 1915 on his ill-fated Antarctic expedition, is probably still in very good condition on the ocean floor. This is one conclusion from research that studied how sunken wood degrades in southern polar waters.

  Film to re-edit Shackleton’s odyssey and project to recover “Endurance”

  

  Bob Chartoff and Lynn Hendee of Chartoff Productions announce plans for “Ice”, an epic action-adventure feature film based on the true story of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s 1914 Endurance expedition. Shackleton’s remarkable rescue of his 27 men when their ship, the Endurance, went down in the pack ice off the Antarctic coast is internationally regarded as the greatest adventure in history.

  HMS Protector cuts through Antarctic ice and visits remote research bases

  

  HMS Protector, the Royal Navy's ice patrol ship, has cut through the ice floes of Antarctica for the first time. The icebreaker arrived in Antarctica for the first time two weeks ago and is following up important survey work for shipping in the region with visits to remote research bases locked in the frozen continent.
