In eleven months of 2011 Uruguayan meat exports jumped 21% in value compared to the same period a year ago, totalling 1.505 billion dollars and 373.548 tons according to the latest release from the country’s National Meat Board (INAC).
The Russian market which has been the main buyer of Uruguayan beef helping to boost cattle prices has virtually ceased operations according to Uruguayan exporters who claim deals are limited to small shipments of livers and tongues.
Uruguay’s beef exports in the first four months of 2011 have been lower in volume but higher in revenue compared to the same period a year ago. Something similar is happening with lamb although the fall in volume was even greater.
Uruguayan beef exports should reach 1.4 billion US dollars in 2011 according to an announcement this week from the country’s Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Tabare Aguerre.
Uruguay’s beef exports dropped in volume but increased in value during the first eleven months of 2010, with Russia for a second consecutive year as the top client, according to the latest release from the National Meats Institute, INAC.
The increase in demand for meat will force world production to more than double by 2050, when the globe’s population is estimated to reach 9 billion, according to Arturo Lavallol a member of the International Meat Organization (OPIC) currently holding its 18th congress in Buenos Aires.
