  Bachelet names new chief of staff in an attempt to uplift her administration

  

  Embattled Chilean President Michelle Bachelet's chief of staff, Jorge Burgos, resigned Wednesday after a series of disagreements with his boss over policy issues. The government said Burgos quit for “personal reasons,” and named Chile's current ambassador to Uruguay, Mario Fernandez Baeza, as his replacement.

  Chile confirms the loss of 39.000 tons of salmon equivalent to toxic algae

  

  Some 25 million of fish -- equivalent to 39,942 tons of dead biomass -- was the final balance of the emergency caused by algae bloom in 45 farms in the salmon farms of the southern region of Chile, Los Lagos, reported SERNAPESCA, director José Miguel Burgos. A several month’s bloom of toxic algae causes ravage in south Chile salmon and trout farms.

  Argentina/Chile celebrate Tierra del Fuego mines-free; Rossi claims UK impedes mine-clearance in Falklands

  

  Argentina and Chile defense ministers, Agustín Rossi and Jorge Burgos, attended this week a historic ceremony in which they signed a document declaring Tierra del Fuego free of anti-personal mines. During the meeting minister Rossi blamed the UK for not allowing Argentina to clear the mines in the Falklands/Malvinas Islands.
