    Peru: Afghan migrants rescued from people traffickers

    Peruvian authorities Sunday rescued 23 Afghan victims of migrant trafficking, it was reported in Lima. “The Tahuamanu Prosecutor's Office in the district of Madre de Dios achieved the rescue of 23 migrants of Afghan nationality in an operation carried out on the Peru-Brazil border, in coordination with the police,” said a statement from the prosecutor's office.

    Chile toughens migration controls

    According to statistics provided by the National Statistics Institute (INE) in April of this year, there are 1,482,390 foreigners living in Chile, of which 476,451 are Venezuelans.

    The Chilean government of President Gabriel Boric Font Thursday announced the creation of a committee to handle the expulsion of irregular migrants and develop a biometric registry of foreigners, it was reported in Santiago. The measure seeks to control irregular entries, such as those occurring at the northern border with Peru, of mostly Venezuelan people.
