The Falkland Islands Government has celebrated a successful season attending major UK party conferences, including the Labour Party Conference in Liverpool, the Conservative Party Conference in Birmingham, and, for the first time, the Liberal Democrat Conference in Brighton.
The Falkland Islands delegation are now in Birmingham for the Conservative Party conference, and as happened in Liverpool with Labour, a stream of lawmakers and friends showed at the Islands stand to express support for Falklands self determination and to listen about the modern Falklands.
A flurry of activity and visits at the Falkland Islands stand at the Labour Party Convention taking place in Liverpool with Members of the Legislative Assembly Leona Roberts and Mark Pollard as hosts with the support from staff of the Falklands Government Office in London.
The Falkland Islands Government held their first fringe meeting at the Liberal Democrat Conference in Brighton on September 15. Members of the Falkland Islands Legislative Assembly (MLA), Mark Pollard and Leona Roberts, joined a panel with Liberal Democrat Peers, The Lord Purvis of Tweed and Baroness Smith of Newnham, to discuss the topic “The Falkland Islands: Self-determination in the 21st Century.”
The Liberal-Dem Party new MP for Surrey Heath, Dr Al Pinkerton, was, until his election on July an Associate Professor of Geopolitics specializing in international borders and boundary disputes. Next Sunday, at Conference, he’ll be chairing a fringe meeting about the Falkland Islands at 11:30 am in the Regent Room at the Grand Hotel.

Members of the Legislative Assembly are disappointed to hear of Argentina’s decision to put an end to the “Foradori-Duncan Pact” of 2016. This pact looked at improving relations on trade and security between the UK and Argentina but it also ensured the agreement to identify the remains of the unknown Argentine soldiers buried near Darwin.
