The government of China Monday announced it will be reinforcing its patrolling of the Himalayan Nepalese border, particularly near or around Mount Everest to prevent the coronavirus from entering the country through climbers.
Despite a Nepalese Health Ministry warning last week that “hospitals have run out of beds,” there is no cancellation of expeditions to Mount Everest insight.
The highest point on Earth got a bit higher on Tuesday as China and Nepal finally agreed on a precise elevation for Mount Everest after decades of debate. The agreed height unveiled at a joint news conference in Kathmandu of 8,848.86m is 86cm higher than the measurement previously recognized by Nepal, and more than 4m above China's official figure.

At least 3,218 people are now known to have died in a massive earthquake which hit Nepal on Saturday, say officials. Rameshwor Dangal, head of Nepal's disaster management agency, said another 6,500 people had been injured. Dozens of people are also reported to have been killed in neighboring China and India.
