Falklands’ oil explorer Rockhopper said the latest well in its controversial drilling campaign in the South Atlantic Islands has come up dry.
Falklands based Argos Resources expects to drill its first well on license PL001 in the North Falkland basin in late-2011 or early-2012, using the semi submersible rig Ocean Guardian, currently operating in the Islands’ waters.
Rockhopper Exploration is in talks with Diamond Offshore about lining up another drilling slot as it spuds a well off the Falkland Islands. Diamond Offshore are the owners of the Ocean Guarding drilling rig contracted by Desire Petroleum and involved in the current hydrocarbons exploration round.
Monday morning Rockhopper Exploration announced the spudding of its latest exploration well, 14/10-7, to further test the Sea Lion oil discovery in Falkland Islands waters.
Rockhopper Exploration plc announced on Thursday a further drilling of four wells offshore the Falkland Islands. The first of them, 14/10-6, will be the third appraisal well on the Sea Lion feature where the discovery of oil at commercial rate has been confirmed.

Rockhopper Exploration has spudded the next appraisal well on the Sea Lion oil discovery in the Falkland Islands’ waters. Drilling began on the 14/10-5 appraisal well on May first 2011.
Argos Resources is a step closer to starting a drill campaign in Falkland Islands waters, where it is targeting a high priority area adjacent to Rockhopper’s Sea Lion discovery.
Argos Resources Limited, the Falkland Islands based hydrocarbons exploration company, has reported that the company has completed the acquisition of 3-D seismic data over the entire area of its PL001 licence in the North Falkland Basin.
