  Pacific Alliance wants to 'expand influence' through cooperation with other groups

  

  The Pacific Alliance will try to 'expand its influence' through agreements with other blocks to improve cooperation in different fields while targeting a “wider integration” in the region, said Mexico's Economy minister Ildefonso Guajardo. The Alliance is holding its summit this week in Punta Mita, Mexico when the chair of the group will pass from Colombia on to Mexico.

  Pacific Alliance to hold round of integration 'informative' talks with Mercosur

  

  Pacific Alliance members meeting in Mexico agreed to hold an “informative” ministerial round of talks with their Mercosur and associates' counterparts to talk about regional integration. The announcement was done following a closed doors meeting of Mexico, Chile, Colombia and Peru foreign ministers who are preparing the agenda for the next Pacific Alliance summit.

  Despite all, Mercosur is “working normally”, says Paraguayan foreign minister

  

  Paraguay's foreign minister Eladio Loizaga said that there is no date for the several times suspended Mercosur summit, but a technical meeting is scheduled for next week in Montevideo when the issue, among others will be addressed. Nevertheless he insisted that the different bodies of Mercosur “are working normally”.

  Paraguay moving closer to Pacific Alliance; expects invitation for summit in Mexico

  

  A top Paraguayan official will be travelling to Colombia to establish 'closer links' with the Pacific Alliance and advance with the country's full membership request. Paraguay currently with observer status is also waiting for the official invitation to participate in the Pacific Alliance summit scheduled for 22 June in Mexico.

  Peruvian president Humala honoured as “Statesman of the Year” in Canada

  

  Peruvian President Ollanta Humala at the end of his three day visit to Canada was honoured in Toronto by the Canadian Council of the Americas with the “Statesman of the Year” annual award. On thanking the award President Humala said that Peru during this year is expected to expand over 5.5% while investment is set to increase by 8%.

  Chile suggests the Pacific Alliance and Mercosur should consider integration

  

  Chile's new foreign minister Heraldo Muñoz ratified his country's membership of the Pacific Alliance, a much questioned group by other regional organizations such as the Venezuelan inspired ALBA and even Mercosur led by Brazil, and suggested that Mercosur and the Pacific Alliance could consider integration. Chile is currently an associate member of Mercosur.

  Pacific Alliance signs accord to scrap 92% of inter-trade tariffs and bolster ties with Asia

  

  Heads of state from the Pacific Alliance, comprised of Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru, signed a deal on Monday that will scrap 92% of tariffs on goods and services traded between them. Created in 2012 the Alliance aims to integrate free markets in trade, energy, finance and infrastructure, and bolster ties with Asia, a key trading partner.
