The Falkland Islands have issued a colorful tribute to the territory’s head of state, Queen Elizabeth II, on the occasion of her 90th birthday; she is the first monarch of the British Isles to achieve this milestone.
As the 90th birthday of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II approaches, the British Overseas Territories of Ascension, British Antarctic Territory, British Virgin Islands, Falkland Islands, and South Georgia & South Sandwich Islands have launched a collection of crown coins to mark this milestone occasion.
The Treasury of the Government of the Falkland Islands has issued (18th September) a new collector coin commemorating the 275th anniversary of the composition of the tune “Rule, Britannia!” The staunchly patriotic British song was set to music by Thomas Arne in 1740, adapted from the poem, “Rule, Britannia,” by James Thomson.

The Coat of Arms of South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands was granted in 1985, upon the formal creation of the territory.
