  Commercial air link Falklands/Chile scheduled to resume 2nd July. Ticket booking begins

  

  Following the announcement made on 7 April 2022, the air link between the Falkland Islands and Chile will resume on Saturday 2 July 2022. LATAM flight schedules will be reinstated with flights stopping in Punta Arenas and Santiago, and once a month stopping in Rio Gallegos.

  Chile plans to build Antarctic center in Punta Arenas

  

  The Government of Chile has called out for bids to build what will be known as the International Antarctic Center (CAI) in Punta Arenas, it was abbounced in Santiago. The US$-80-million development is expected to foster research on Antarctic matters to position that location as the country's main gateway to Antarctica.

  Punta Arenas satisfied with 2021/22 cruise season, “we successfully managed to re launch activities”

  

  Next Tuesday a cruise vessel will be calling at Puerto Williams in Chile officially marking the end of the 2021/22 cruise season in that country, which local authorities from Punta Arenas consider very satisfactory, given the activity generated since November 2021, after 18 months of pandemic restrictions.

  Several Chilean salmon farming companies reported for contamination

  

  The Chilean Fisheries Department, Sernapesca has confirmed the appearance of garbage on the beaches of Riesco Island, which have been identified as belonging to nearby salmon farms. The companies reported are, Austral S.A, Australis; Blumar; and Magallanes SpA, and have been notified and have ten days to clear the beaches.

  Climate change, weak markets and high costs challenge wool farmers in Punta Arenas

  

  After two years running with no shows, on Sunday ended the 69th Livestock Exposition of Magallanes Region, extreme south of Chile and which took place at Punta Arenas. Following a parade of the best cattle and sheep, there was a display of Chilean horses and riders' skills, and a colorful performance by the Municipal Folklore Ballet.

  The United States aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk is on its way to a scrapyard in Texas and too large to slip through the Panama Canal, the ship must sail around South America.

  Compassionate charter flight to Chile not approved by Government of Argentina

  

  The Falkland Islands Government (FIG) has been informed that the permissions required to operate a compassionate charter flight between the Falkland Islands and Chile have not been granted by the Argentine authorities. This flight was due to travel to Chile from the Falkland Islands on Saturday 19 March 2022, and return on Saturday 9 April, it was informed by the FIG on Wednesday.

  Last living Yagan language speaker dies aged 93; members of her ethnicity lived in the Falklands

  

  The last known living person who spoke Yagan, the language of the indigenous people who inhabited Tierra del Fuego, passed away this week in the Clinics Hospital from Punta Arenas, extreme south of Chile. She was 93, and had to be transported urgently from Puerto Williams to the Magallanes Region capital.

  Punta Arenas cruise season: 27 vessels on tours of Antarctica

  

  The Punta Arenas port management company, in the extreme south of Chile, has offered a timetable of cruise vessel activities during the first two weeks of February. According to the program, eleven calls are scheduled in the two weeks to 15 February. Until Sunday 6 February six cruise vessels were effectively called.
