Following the announcement made on 7 April 2022, the air link between the Falkland Islands and Chile will resume on Saturday 2 July 2022. LATAM flight schedules will be reinstated with flights stopping in Punta Arenas and Santiago, and once a month stopping in Rio Gallegos.
The Government of Chile has called out for bids to build what will be known as the International Antarctic Center (CAI) in Punta Arenas, it was abbounced in Santiago. The US$-80-million development is expected to foster research on Antarctic matters to position that location as the country's main gateway to Antarctica.

The Falkland Islands Government (FIG) has been informed that the permissions required to operate a compassionate charter flight between the Falkland Islands and Chile have not been granted by the Argentine authorities. This flight was due to travel to Chile from the Falkland Islands on Saturday 19 March 2022, and return on Saturday 9 April, it was informed by the FIG on Wednesday.
The last known living person who spoke Yagan, the language of the indigenous people who inhabited Tierra del Fuego, passed away this week in the Clinics Hospital from Punta Arenas, extreme south of Chile. She was 93, and had to be transported urgently from Puerto Williams to the Magallanes Region capital.
The Punta Arenas port management company, in the extreme south of Chile, has offered a timetable of cruise vessel activities during the first two weeks of February.
