  Argentina says humanitarian flights “all ready” to fly Falklands-residents to Chile

  

  The Argentine government announced on Sunday that “all is ready” for the two humanitarian charter flights, with an Argentine flagged carrier, to transport Falklands-Malvinas foreign residents that have been stranded in the Islands since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic.

  Argentina votes funds for the construction of a Logistic Pole in Ushuaia

  

  The Argentine government has earmarked some 70 million dollars, in three years, for the construction of an Antarctic Logistic Pole in Ushuaia, capital of the extreme south province of Tierra del Fuego. Some US$ 25 million will be invested next year to begin the development of the strategic project aimed at consolidating Ushuaia as the support hub for scientific research in Antarctica.

  Chilean town battles in court to prevent a salmon's industry effluent plant in the commune

  

  The Punta Arenas Appeals Court accepted a protective order presented by bio-engineer Elisa Giustinianovich Campos requesting measures in support of the residents of the San Gregorio commune, given the possible construction of two plants to process the effluents generated by the salmon industry in the region.

  Punta Arenas will have its International Antarctic Center following financing of the project

  

  Punta Arenas, as the capital of the Chilean Magallanes Region and Chilean Antarctica, will finally have its International Antarctic Center making the city the logistic hub and gate of access to Western Antarctica, following on the regional council's decision to support and finance the 88 million dollars project as part of the development program for Extreme Zones.

  Antarctic cruise company abandons Ushuaia and moves to Punta Arenas

  

  Punta Arenas, the extreme south of Chile will be hosting Silversea Cruises as its base of operations, having decided to abandon Ushuaia in Tierra del Fuego. Silversea announced a release in which it makes official its Antarctic cruise operations during the 2021/22 season, following an agreement with Chilean officials.

  Latam will resume Santiago/Punta Arenas flights on November 2nd

  

  LATAM and Jetsmar will be resuming their flights to Punta Arenas from Santiago on November 2 and 4 respectively. The announcement by Magallanes Region officials followed the arrival of Sky airlines to Puerto Natales and the confirmation of two weekly flights, Tuesday and Thursdays until the end of the year.
