    Falklands' naval exercises: “regular routine training”, says Ministry of Defense

    HMS Iron Duke gun fire exercise in the Falklands took place some weeks ago in October and was “part of a routine training schedule planned long in advance”.

    UK described recent combined military exercises in and around the Falkland Islands as part of regular routine training. The statement follows on Thursday's strong Argentine protest, (which claims sovereignty over the (Malvinas) Islands), and called the military exercises a “new provocation”.

    RFA Black Rover back in UK after 17-month deployment in the Atlantic

    Sixteen times British or foreign vessels have topped up their fuel tanks including HMS Iron Duke, plus RN’s permanent presence in the Falklands, HMS Clyde

    The second-oldest vessel in the Naval Service, veteran tanker RFA Black Rover, a well known presence in the Falkland Islands, has completed her penultimate deployment, a marathon of 17 months in the Atlantic. No Royal Navy vessel can carry out a patrol in the Southern Hemisphere without the support of a Royal Fleet Auxiliary tanker – a duty performed in recent years by a Rover-class vessel.

    Falklands' guardian HMS Clyde braves storms for routine South Georgia visit

    Falkland Islands guardian HMS Clyde braved spring storms to pay her first visit of the Austral summer to the wildlife paradise of South Georgia. The patrol ship crossed 850 miles of ocean to reach the remote island – part of its domain as the Royal Navy’s permanent presence in the Falklands – to work with British Antarctic Survey scientists and generally fly the flag for the UK.

    British and German embassies commemorate 100 years of the Battle of Coronel

    The Chilean Navy, Municipality of Coronel and the British Embassy organized a service of commemoration in Coronel attended by more than 300 people.

    British and German Embassies in Santiago organized a commemoration event to mark the 100 years of the Battle of Coronel, off the coast of Chile. A hundred years ago November first 1914, one of the first Naval battles of the First World War between the Royal Navy and the German Navy took place 50 miles off the coast of Coronel.

    The Royal Navy with more admirals than surface warships?

    London's Daily Mirror had taken on the Royal Navy arguing that the shrunken service now has nearly twice as many admirals as surface warships. In effect despite destroyers and frigates being cut to a paltry 19, the Senior Service still boasts 33 admirals on £100,000 a year.

    September and early October has been a busy five weeks for the smallest ship in the Royal Navy with a flight deck. HMS Clyde is tasked with patrolling the Falkland Islands whilst also monitoring the airspace that covers the wider area, and routinely visits the many small settlements that feature around the Islands.

    Royal Navy invests £348 million in three new offshore patrol vessels

    The OPVs build on the proven capability of the Royal Navy’s current River Class vessels.

    Steel was cut this week for the first of three new Royal Navy offshore patrol vessels (OPVs) at a ceremony in Glasgow. The vessels, which will be used by the Royal Navy to undertake various tasks in support of UK interests both at home and abroad, will be built at BAE Systems’ shipyards under a £348 million contract that has protected more than 800 Scottish jobs.

    Frigate HMS Iron Duke will be patrolling the area including a call at the Falklands

    The Royal Navy HMS Iron Duke on Atlantic Patrol Tasking south berthed this week in South Georgia for a few days where she also met with Ice Patrol HMS Protector which arrived at the islands on her deployment to Antarctica, after battling hurricane force winds and 24 meters waves.

    Royal Navy will have a second aircraft carrier, “Prince of Wales”

    “The second carrier will be brought into service. It’s means the Royal Navy will be able deploy a carrier 100 percent of the time,” Cameron said.

    The UK Royal Navy is to get the second operational aircraft carrier, British Prime Minister David Cameron announced. Britain is building two 65,000-ton aircraft carriers in a £6.2 billion deal with a BAE Systems-led industry alliance, but the Conservative-led coalition had previously said it would mothball or sell the second warship due to the cost of operating two carriers.

    A British warship has proudly sailed into Cape Town carrying the Rugby World Cup Trophy – ahead of next year’s event being held in the UK. Even thick rain clouds could not prevent HMS Iron Duke displaying the gold of the Web Ellis Trophy on her deck as she arrived in the South African city for a short visit.
