  Spain anticipates closed frontier if Gibraltar does not accept joint sovereignty

  

  Spain's Acting Foreign Minister says free movement across the Gibraltar frontier will automatically end unless Gibraltarians accept joint sovereignty proposal with Spain. Jose Manuel Garcia Margallo was answering a question by Gibraltar Broadcasting Corporation at a press conference after he met with Andalusia politicians in Algeciras, including the mayors of Algeciras and La Linea. From Seville Gibraltar Chief Minister Fabian Picardo said no democratic nation would get away closing a frontier.

  Spain asks Latin American countries support for Gibraltar's sovereignty claim

  

  Spain has, for the first time ever, asked the annual Iberian-Latin American Summit for its support on the Gibraltar sovereignty question. It has asked the Colombian Government, as the organizers of the 28/29 October event to circulate the text for the summit to adopt a resolution for the resumption of sovereignty talks over Gibraltar.

  Prime Minister Theresa May will meet Spain’s caretaker Prime Minister, Mariano Rajoy, in Madrid on Thursday for talks on a range of issues including Brexit. The visit to Spain is part of a string of meetings in European capitals as Mrs May appeals for a fair “divorce deal” from Brussels for the UK.

  Gibraltar Chief Minister Fabian Picardo said that all the potential economic benefits from joint UK/Spain Gibraltar sovereignty could exist today if Spain respected the Gibraltarians' choice not to be Spanish. The statement was in response to Spain's formal invitation to the UK to commence joint sovereignty negotiations on Gibraltar.

  London dismisses bilateral dialogue over Gibraltar; “UK's position on sovereignty remains unchanged”

  

  Britain has dismissed a formal Spanish request for bilateral dialogue over Gibraltar, the Gibraltar Chronicle has published. A letter from acting Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel García-Margallo was handed to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office by a senior official from the Spanish embassy in London on September 20.
