  Falklands agrees on main topics of constitutional review

  

  The Falklands Islands Select Committee on the Constitutional Review has decided the order in which it is going to deal with the topics to be covered. The first issue to be looked at will be the Fundamental Rights and Freedoms chapter of the Constitution at a meeting that will possibly take place as soon as the middle of June.

  Falklands: dual nationality voting rights triggers contention

  

  Those who did turn up to the second meeting of the Falkland Islands Select Committee on Constitutional Review on May 25 were greeted by a numbered list of 10 topics projected onto a large screen. The topics were listed in a proposed order for consideration that was produced by what was called “a small group”.

  A spirited discussion surrounding food prices was prompted by a question from MLA Teslyn Barkman in Legislative Assembly last Wednesday, 31st May. MLA Teslyn Barkman asked MLA Gavin Short about the UK’s government’s decision to investigate food pricing. “Can the Honorable Gavin Short please say whether we here in the Falklands have any mechanisms or agency that could be used to investigate the grocery retail market?”

  Falklands farmers face tough times unable to have a fluid sale of their wool clip

  Falkland Islands, a British Overseas Territory, joined in the celebrations of the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III and Her Majesty Queen Camilla on Saturday. The Islands were represented by a group of individuals who took part in the festivities in London, including Members of the Falkland Islands Defence Force, DC Helen Taylor from the Royal Falkland Islands Police, MLA Teslyn Barkman, Her Excellency The Governor, Alison Blake CMG, and Falkland Islands Representative, Richard Hyslop.

  Falklands new fisheries patrol vessel name: “Lilibet” in honor of Queen Elizabeth

  

  The Falkland Islands Government's new Fishery Patrol Vessel (FPV) provided under a 15-year contract by Seagull Maritime Limited, beginning in 2023, finally has a name, “Lilibet”. The name was put forward by schoolchild Aimee Walker following an open competition at both Falkland Islands Schools in May.
