The Falkland Islands Museum and National Trust have opened the Voices from the Great War exhibition to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War.
Some 41 ships are expected to visit the Falkland Islands this coming cruise season which begins on Saturday with expedition vessel “Ushuaia”. Total calls in Stanley are estimated in 108 while some 170 in the Camp, but much will depend on the weather.
The large number of Argentine visitors to the Falkland Islands this week included pupils of the Don Bosco College in Ensenada. Having spent the first full day of their stay visiting the military cemeteries at Darwin and San Carlos where they paid tribute to the fallen of both sides in 1982, on Monday the group, whose visit was arranged in conjunction with the British Embassy in Buenos Aires, was given a presentation on the Falklands by the FIG Policy Department.
A fascinating new exhibition, entitled The Falklands: Then & Now was opened by the Acting Governor Alex Mitham, in the Historic Dockyard Museum last week. Museum Director, Andrea Barlow, thanks invited guests to the preview, and expressed her gratitude for the many contributions to the exhibition.
The Falkland Islands government, FIG, has announced that as from the 1st July 2018, the landing fee for tourists arriving in Stanley shall increase from £21 to £25. The fee for those arriving into other destinations in the Islands shall remain at £7.50.
Falkland Islanders were able to enjoy a first class display of chopper capability when a military Chinook transported from Mount Pleasant to Stanley Airport the decommissioned Sea King Search and Rescue (SAR) helicopter donated to the Falkland Islands Museum and National Trust by the UK Ministry of Defense.
Falkland Islands Museum Director Leona Roberts will be carrying a unique and valuable artistic insight into Falklands history when she returns to Stanley.
